7 years ago (2016-10-05 13:33:57) :
We're just waiting for the last tracker to come in and be downloaded so that we can publish the scores. %D
7 years ago (2016-10-05 12:19:48) :
To get an idea of flying in Reunion, it's really worth going into the Media Box and clicking on Paragliding World Cup TV. Philippe's videos really capture the spirit of the competition. There is great footage of the conditions and terrain here.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:38:39) :
Nicolas Alliot our last pilot in the air has just got the turn point and the end of speed and is about to land in goal.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:33:53) :
Nicolas Alliot is at 860m so should have plenty of height to take the turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:28:33) :
The last pilot in the air Nicolas Alliot on his green and black Niviuk IcePeak 8 should be just coming into view on the hills side above St Leu.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:25:48) :
Mathias has made the final turn point and will easily get the end of speed and goal.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:24:38) :
Mathias Ioualalen on his white, black and green Ozone Mantra 6 should be visible in the sky behind St Leu but the clouds are quite grey making it difficult to spot him.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 11:20:19) :
The last 2 pilots still flying, Mathias Ioualalen and Nicolas Alliot, should make goal. They are flying along a sunny slope with a nice breeze.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:56:54) :
Joel has got the end of speed section and is about to land on the beautiful sandy beach just north of St Leu which is today's goal 'field'.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:54:52) :
Joel Loire is just about to take the final turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:51:48) :
Joel Loire is approaching the last turn point, he needs to climb but the conditions seem to be making that relatively easy at the moment. Although the cloud is quite low there is still a lot of sunshine.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:47:04) :
Cyril Lambert has got the last turn point and is well on the way to the end of speed section 300m away.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:45:39) :
Cyril Lambert is in a nice climb to cross the cylinder round the final turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:45:34) :
Cyril Lambert is in a nice climb to cross the cylinder round the final turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:43:42) :
Will Cyril Lambert make the same mistake?
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:43:25) :
It looks like first lady Klaudia Bulgakow is going straight for the end of speed section without getting the final turn point first.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:38:19) :
Local pilot Cyril Lambert and first lady Klaudia Bulgakow are gliding across the flank behind St Leu. Klaudia has taken a climb and is comfortably high. Cyril is taking a lower line but he probably knows what he is doing.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:36:04) :
Lionel Lang has taken the final turn point as has Markus Roschi.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:33:53) :
Julien Brung has just taken the last turn point and the end of speed. Lionel Lang and Markus Roschi are climbing and are about to take the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:28:49) :
Markus Roschi and Lionnel Lang are behind him but comfortably high so they should get the turn point comfortably.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:28:42) :
Julien Brung is putting in a brave fight to get along the flank behind St Leu, he is now in a climb which should get him to the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:28:35) :
Ludovic Robert and Emmanuel Nicolas have got goal.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:22:10) :

7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:15:19) :
Pellisier has beaten Trutmann into the end of speed section and gone into 6th place.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:14:45) :
Trutmann has got the end of speed section and can see the goal on the beach below him. Andre Rainsford is in a good position to get the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:13:40) :
Trutmann has got the final turn point. Marin and Pethigal have just landed in goal.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:12:04) :

7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:10:59) :
Jonathin Marin and Richard Pethigal have got the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:09:55) :
Jonathan Marin and Richard Pethigal are thermalling up together and should get the turn point any minute now.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:08:19) :
Christoph Trutmann is now climbing reasonably fast but will have to be very patient working his way up the hill to the cyclinder around the last turn point 2.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:06:12) :
Richard Pethigal needs another climb too but he isn't in as bad a position. Michael Sigel has taken the turn point and the end of speed.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:05:07) :
Christoph Trutmann is perilously low, he desperately needs another climb.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:03:48) :
Christoph is sliding down the hill, he really needs another climb to keep his 3rd position before the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:02:44) :
It looks as if Christoph Trutman and Richard Pethigal need another thermal to get the last turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 10:01:46) :
Although Michael Sigel is half a km behind Christoph Trutmann he will probably get the turn point first as he is 300m higher but if Christoph can surf along the thermals he could get there first.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:59:41) :
Michael Kuffer and Jan Sterren - goooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaal

Reunion is a stunning island with its ravines, palm trees and stunning coast line it is about half the size of Corsica and about the same size as the Scottish Island of Skye it is flyable here 300 days a year.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:24:45) :
The view of all the pilots in the sky behind St Louis is absolutely amazing.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:23:57) :
Jan Sterren and Michael Koffer (100m higher) have made it back over the river and are heading back up the island towards the last turn point just past St Leu before launch.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:17:00) :
Today seems to be suiting the international pilots more than the local pilots. There are competitions in Reunion every few weeks which makes it a great place to practice and this is very evident. Apparently the quality of competition skills of the local pilots has improved greatly over the last few years.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:09:23) :
Michael Kuffer has now got a 2.5km lead over the others.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 09:02:36) :

7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:56:57) :
Jan Sterren and Stephane Poulain have now also got the turn point.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:54:37) :
Richard Pethigal has come from nowhere and got the river crossing way faster than the others - obviously a Brazilian tandem pilot speciality.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:52:21) :
Michael Kuffer has just go the turn point
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:50:31) :

7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:46:12) :
Stephane Poulain and Michael Kuffer are just crossing the ravine and don't seem to have got wet feet yet.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:42:06) :
There seem to be 2 very different approaches to taking the big ravine. One group are inland: Jan Sterren, Yoshiaki Hirokawa, Markus Roschi and Michael Sigel. Nearer the town and coast Michael Kuffer and Stephane Poulin are about to cross the Cilaos ravine.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:32:46) :
Michael Kuffer, Markus Roschi and Jan Sterren have all overtaken Michael Sigel but he's 200m higher than they are. They'll all need to get high to cross the enormous ravine which comes out of Cirque de Cilaos which is just ahead of them.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:29:07) :
Unlucky Michael Kuffer from yesterday has now taken a 1km lead over Michael Sigel.

Local pilot Cyril Lambert is right behind the lead gaggle.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:26:38) :
Veteran russian pilot Yury Mishanin is also there with the lead gaggle just behind Michael Sigel.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:26:32) :
The unstoppable Michael Sigel has now taken the lead. The mountain route seems to be working best although a group out in the flatter ground led by Emmanuel Nicolas are on their heels. %D%A
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:20:10) :
The leaders are all now crossing the big ravines at the aptly named Eglise de la Ravine Seche.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:17:14) :

7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:08:58) :
Stephane Poulain is pulling away from Yoshiaki Hirokawa who has now been joined by Markus Roschi.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:06:09) :
This is proving to be a very interesting race already. The 3 leaders are all taking different routes. Stephane Poulain is sticking to the mountains. Jonathan Marin is mid height and local pilot Emmanuel Nicolas is sticking to the coast.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:02:37) :
Yoshiaki Hirokawa has taken the lead after 11km.%D%A
7 years ago (2016-10-05 08:00:43) :
There are sugar cane fields everywhere. If you land in one you'll need your GPS to find your way out the plants are so tall. For those with a sweet tooth, the cut sugar cane fields work, the uncut ones don't.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 07:58:24) :
The topography here is very different to what most of the pilots are used to. They are currently flying over ravines filled with thorn bushes and yucca plants which are impossible to cross by foot.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 07:55:08) :
Most of the pilots are flying between 600 and 800m so not that high.
7 years ago (2016-10-05 07:53:38) :
