There was a mixed reaction to the weather conditions today. Idris Birch summed it up nicely - 'we were in the lee on both sides of the valley'. Tonight there is a pilot meal so no doubt the task will be relived many times.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 17:42:25) :
Alexander Frider, the last pilot in the air, has just made goal, 109.5 km which took six hours. 72 pilots made goal today.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 16:35:53) :
Six pilots are still in the air but should get to goal soon.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 16:30:49) :
The top 15 into goal (without lead out points) were: Alexandre Jofresa, Torsten Siegel, Jean Marc Caron, Idris Birch, Luc Armant, Julien Wirtz, Ulrich Prinz, Pierre Remy, Russell Ogden, Thomas Gury, Philipp Haag, Yassen Savov, Honorin Hamard, Seiko Fukuoka Naville and Nicola Donini. Well done to all 15.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 16:06:08) :
Some pilots went into the mountains. Ulrich Prinz fell behind at turn point 6 but managed to catch up the lead gaggle by watching from behind. Apart from a bit of time spent topping up to get into goal, it was a good racy task at the end.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 16:05:58) :
After our internet melt down a group of about 10 or 15 pilots managed to climb in a lee side thermal at turn point 6 and got away, this was the critical point in the day. The rest missed the cycle. The lead group managed to climb up to base and flew most of the rest of the task in the valley.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 15:54:15) :
So what happened in the rest of the task?
7 years ago (2017-05-24 14:09:03) :
     P
7 years ago (2017-05-24 14:03:27) :
     Hugo went to P
7 years ago (2017-05-24 14:02:45) :
Hugo Laronze has taken the lead. Last year was his first Paragliding World Cup year, he progressed massively. 'Given Hugo's age he has enormous potential,' Didier Mathurin, the French team coach.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 14:00:31) :
15 pilots have just taken turn point 6 whilst I was looking out of the window at the clouds again.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:58:21) :
Cirrus has gone leaving a blue sky dotted with cumulus.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:55:53) :
Seiko (Enzo 3) and Yoann (Boomerang 11) have taken the lead leaving Russel and Torsten behind to discuss paraglider parameters
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:54:08) :
Seiko Fukuoka Naville has taken the lead again - go Seiko, go!
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:53:36) :
16 pilots have all taken the turn point together.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:52:51) :
Russel on his Enzo 3 and Torsten on his Boomerang 11, who is going to get there first?
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:52:00) :
Torsten and Russ are in the lead about to get the 5th turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:50:03) :
If you thought the pilot quality at the Paragliding World Cup in Antoine and Louis Gerin-jean's home town of St Andre was super high, it's worth bearing in mind that 45 pilots had an A in St Andre compared to 50 in this 2017 Coeur de Savoie Paragliding World Cup! Note: The pilot quality in the Super Final can't be compared to that in a normal Paragliding World Cup as it's the top 15 from each previous Paragliding World Cup that year that qualify rather than by letters.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:42:11) :
Antoine Gerin-jean is about to get the turn point further west which will put him in a better position to get the next turn point directly to the north, but first they need to do the valley crossing again.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:37:12) :
Honorin Hamard, Nicola Donini and Julien Wirtz have caught up with Yoann and they've all got the 4th turn point together
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:30:39) :
Yoann is now comfortably high at 1700m, those behind have dropped to 1300m. They are following the ridge rather than going directly to the turn point.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:29:28) :
Yoann has got a 2km lead, absolutely amazing amongst such a high level of pilots
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:27:39) :
Could today be Yoann Chavanne's third Paragliding World Cup win? He won a task in the Paragliding World Cup in Montalegre in 2015 and the 1st task in the 2015 Paragliding World Cup in Switzerland.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:24:59) :
Yoann has made the crossing but is a lot lower than those coming behind him. He's at 1000m and the rest are at 1700m.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:23:17) :
Yassen Savov is second but quite a bit behing Yoann
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:21:44) :
Yoann Chavanne has got a good lead over the others
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:20:52) :
The leaders have set off across the valley
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:18:51) :
For Torsten and the Gin R&D team the Super Final proved that the concept of the Boomerang 11 worked. Since then the whole team tested it in Mexico, they reduced the number of lines and changed the profile slightly. The verdict - we've definitely made a very competitive wing.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:18:24) :
For Luc it has been a very pleasant surprise to see just how solid the Enzo 3 has turned out to be and very well behaved. It doesn't collapse easily. The task yesterday in strong conditions put it through its paces into wind over the forest. Luc gave it full marks.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:16:55) :
     The leaders are passing take-off
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:10:02) :
Yoann Chavanne is up with the leaders making it three Enzo 3s and three Boomerang 11s at the front.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:07:43) :
This is the battle of the test pilots with Luc Armant, Russell Ogden, Torsten Siegel, Idris Birch and Honorin Hamard amongst the leaders
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:04:37) :
Idris Birch has taken the lead. There are three and a half Welsh pilots in the competition but I can't see any of his fellow compatriots amongst the leaders at the moment.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:03:08) :
The top twenty have got the third turn point and are now heading south to the next cylinder around Allevard.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:00:37) :
Three turn points down - seven to go
7 years ago (2017-05-24 13:00:32) :
They are quite spread out along the cylinder. A lot are coming back via Mt Colombier
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:55:26) :
Honorin Hamard and Simon Arnold are the first to get the turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:54:51) :
Current overall winner Luc Armant is up with the leaders about to take the third turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:53:53) :
Pierre Remy, Julien Wirtz, Ulrich Prinz and Honorin have just very unchivalrously overtaken the ladies
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:49:58) :
Yael is am amazing pilot. In 2012 she top landed on Mont Blanc. Last week she did a 210 triangle from Verbier via Dents d'Arclusaz setting a new Verbier club record.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:46:58) :
The ladies have taken the lead - Seiko Fukuoka Naville and Yael Margelisch are showing the field that it should be ladies first.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:44:16) :
Honorin Hamard has broken away and is leading the race
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:41:20) :
Now they have all turned to go north for the third turn point. They are all following the ridge up to the third turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:39:31) :
The first twenty pilots have just passed the second turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:33:15) :
It looks as if Baptiste Lambert is in the lead - we can almost hear Mum and Dad, Paragliding World Cup pilots Sandy and Cyril, cheering in La Reunion.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:30:31) :
They are just topping up a bit before making the crossing at Col du Frene
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:27:31) :
It's difficult to see who is in the lead, Soheil Barikani was in the lead for a few seconds. There was a great article about flying in Iran, Soheil Barikani's home country, in our partner XC magazine's April 2017 edition. Solheil played host to one of the magazine's flying travel writers Nick Greece.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:22:44) :
Now they are heading back towards take off to get the 2nd turn point
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:22:19) :
Whilst I turned round to look out of the window to watch them all - 115 pilots took the first turn point!
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:18:55) :
There is a whole swarm of colourful little paragliders at about the height of the tree line in front of the Dent d'Arclusaz trying to get the turn point without losing too much height.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:13:24) :
They are coming along the Dent d'Arclusaz ridge but will have to at some point leave the ridge to get the first turn point.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 12:04:55) :
The first pilots have just taken the start
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:46:41) :
There is a good high base with a bit of northerly but so far it is not a problem
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:33:44) :
There is a steady stream of colourful croissants (albeit thin ones) flying along the back ridge to the start
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:16:22) :
Honorin Hamard has taken off with Aaron. Let's see how the Enzo3s and the Boomerang11s get on together today.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:16:17) :
They're all off, peace at last for those trying to picnic
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:16:12) :
Aaron Durogati Twice Super Final champion has just lauched
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:16:07) :
Once they get on to the ridge behind they'll go north to get the start then continue onto the Dent de Arclusaz for the first turn point.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:16:03) :
Quite a few pilots have already managed to get established on the ridge behind launch
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:15:58) :
Laurie Genovese one of the best female paraglider pilots in the world has just lunched - making it all look just so easy and graceful.
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:15:53) :
Balazs Racz from Hungary has just taken off and flown south in the line of gliders all looking for the house thermal.

Off they go in a steady procession, with the snowy jagged alps in the background
7 years ago (2017-05-24 11:15:39) :
The idea today was to set a tactical task, with lots of decision making, which ridges will work, where to go for the big valley crossings?
